Prepration of Interior

PREPARATION OF NEW SURFACE

All surfaces must be free from dirt, dust, oil and grease. The plaster should be left to dry for at least four weeks depending on weather conditions before painting. Remove all nibs and other excrescences by using emery stone, glasspaper (sandpaper), etc. make good any surface defects with proper putty. If efflorescence is present, remove it with scrubbing brush. Do not use wire bush.

PREPARATION OF PREVIOUSLY PAINTED SURFACES

On previously painted surfaces scrape to remove all old pain, which is loose and flaking thoroughly brush out from the pores of old distempers, cement paints, etc. apply one normal coat of Rainbow Perfecton Wall Primer Sealer or Rainbow Water Based Wall Primer. Make good the defects of the walls by using Rainbow Wall Putty.

PREPARATION OF PUTTY

It has been generally established that major cause of complaint about flaking paints on the interiors is due to poorly prepared putty. As such we strongly recommend that the Rainbow Wall Putty suggested should be used.

PRIMER COAT

Apply a thinner coat even if the surface is in good condition. For thinning use 1 liter of turpentine to 4 liters of Perfecton. Allow it to dry overnight.

FINISHING COAT

If you want to paint using Rainbow Plastic Emulsion, 2 to 3 coats of Rainbow Plastic Emulsion should be applied with brush, roller or spray. Add 2 to 2½ liters of water to 1 gallon of paint before use. For final coat, some extra water may be added to improve flow. Clean all equipment and brushes with water soon after use.

COVERAGE

Coverage will be depending on surface and application but on an average, one liter of Rainbow Plastic Emulsion will cover 12 to 16m2 per liter per coat on a normal smooth surface. If the surface is rough or absorbent, coverage will be less.

Prepration of Exterior

PREPARATION OF NEW SURFACE

All surfaces must be free from dirt and dust. The plaster should be left to dry for at least three weeks before painting. Remove all nibs and other excrescence by using emery stone, glasspaper, etc. make god any surface detects with proper cement render and allow it to dry.

PREPARATION OF PREVIOUSLY PAINTED SURFACES

Scrape to remove all old paint, which is loose and flaking, thoroughly bush off from the pores of old distempers, cement paints, etc. Apply one normal coat of Rainbow Perfecton Wall Primer Sealer or Rainbow Water Based Wall Primer. Make good the defects of the wall by using proper cement render.

PRIMER COAT

If efflorescence is occurring, remove with stiff scrubbing brush. Apply Rainbow Perfecton Wall Primer Sealer or Rainbow Water Based Wall Primer with brush. If necessary, thin with ½ liter (500 cc) of genuine mineral turpentine to 4 liters of Perfecton. On previously painted surface, apply a thinner coat even if the surface is in good condition. For thinning, use 1 liter of turpentine to 4 liters of Primer. Allow it to dry overnight.

FINISHING COAT

2 to 3 coats of Rainbow Weather Guard should be applied with brush, roller or spray. For the first 2 coats, it may be thinned with equal volume of water. In the third coat, a little more water may be added, if required.

COVERAGE

Coverage will be depend on surface and application but on an average, 1 Gallon (4 Liters) of Rainbow Weather Guard will cover 300 to 350 Sq.ft per Gallon on a normal smooth surface. If the surface is rough or absorbent, coverage will be less.

Iron, Steel and Ferrous Structure

SURFACE PREPRATION

It is essential that before painting, the surfaces should be cleaned as far as possible to bright metal. The ideal surface preparation would be sandblasting but this is not always possible and as such the alternate would be chipping and wire-brushing to remove all scales, rust etc. immediately after surface preparation apply 1 coat of appropriate Wood Primer.

PRIMER COAT

Depending on the conditions of painting and the end use of the painted article, apply Rainbow Red Oxide Primer. 1 to 2 coats with intervals of 16 hours between coats – is suggested.

FINISHING COAT

Apply 2 coats of Rainbow Super Gloss Enamel allowing 12 to 16 hours drying time between coats. It can be applied with brush, roller or spray. To obtain desired viscosity, thin up to 10% by using good-quality mineral turpentine (white spirit).

COVERGAE

Coverage will be depending on surface and application but on an average, 1 liter of Rainbow Super Gloss Enamel will cover 16 to 18 m2 per coat on a normal surface.

Plaster and Cement Surfaces

SURFACE PREPARATION

The surface must be dried before painting. Flatten the surface with coarse emery paper. Apply 1 to 2 coats of Perfecton; this will eventually prevent the penetration of moisture through the paint film. For repainting jobs on old walls, the uneven portion must be scraped off completely. Re-plaster, if necessary. Any cracks must be made good. Leave the surface and then follow the earlier procedure. Do not leave dirt and fatty matters over areas that are to be repainted. They must be washed off with mild detergent solution, if necessary. Wash with fresh water and allow the wall to dry perfectly before painting.

PRIMER COAT

Primer coat is recommended. If thinning is required due to difference in absorption of surface, good-quality genuine mineral turpentine may be mixed with it.

FINISHING COAT

On interior surface, Rainbow Executive Plastic Emulsion or similar is recommended whereas on exterior surfaces, 2 to 3 coats of Rainbow Weather Guard should be applied.

COVERAGE

Coverage will be depend on surface and application but on an average, 1 liter of Rainbow Executive Plastic Emulsion will cover 12 to 16 m2 per liter per coat whereas 1 Gallon (4 Liters) of Rainbow Weather Guard will cover 300 to 350 Sq.ft per Gallon on a normal smooth surface. If the surface is rough or absorbent, coverage will be less.

Aluminum, Galavanized & Other NonFerrous

SURFACE PREPARATION

Remove oil, grease, dirt, etc. with solvent, wipe and dry off. Mechanically etch the surface with steel wool or “0” grade paper. Wipe with clean rag to remove traces of steel or aluminum. Alternately, apply a thin coat of the etch primer and allow to dry for 1 hour. Apply 1 coat of Rainbow Zinc Chromate Yellow Primer and let it dry overnight. Apply 2 coats of Rainbow Super Glass Enamel in the shade required, with overnight drying time between coats. If a gloss finish is required 2 to 3 coats of Rainbow Super Gloss Enamel can be applied.

PRIMER COAT

Rust does not affect these materials, but poor adhesion is a major problem. For obtaining proper adhesion of the paint, either a pre-treatment solution or wash primer should be used before applying a finishing paint; weathering of aluminum or galvanized surfaces usually assists adhesion.

COVERAGE

Coverage will depend on surface and application but on an average, 1 liter of Rainbow Super Gloss Enamel will cover 16 to 18 m2 per liter per coat on a normal surface.

Wood & Fibrous Material

SURFACE PREPRATION

The wood surface be seasoned and must not contain moisture before painting. Other fibrous material should be properly dried before painting. The holes, knots, dents, cracks or grooves must be filled in with a suitable stopper. After proper drying, the whole surface should be smoothened up with sandpaper so that there are no fiber heads. A suitable knitting filler is then applied over the whole surface to full the dip in the grains. After drying, this is again smoothened with sandpaper. When the surface is perfectly uniform, apply a coat of Rainbow Perfecton Wall Primer Sealer.

PRIMER COAT

For primer coat, Rainbow Perfecton Wall Primer Sealer is recommended but if thinning is required due to difference is absorption of surface, good quality genuine mineral turpentine may be mixed with it.

UNDER COAT

For undercoat, Rainbow Universal Undercoat can be easily applied with brush or spray to give excellent flat finish. It may be ready for use for brush application but, if required some mineral or genuine turpentine may also be added for ease of application. For spray, the paint should be thinned with turpentine to spray application viscosity.

FINISHING COAT

For finishing coat, Rainbow Super Gloss Enamel can be applied with brush, roller or spray. To obtain desired viscosity, thin up to 10% by using good-quality mineral turpentine (white spirit). Final coat may be further thinned slightly to get improved leveling and appearance.

COVERAGE

Coverage will be depended on surface and application but on an average, 1 liter of Rainbow Super Gloss Enamel will cover 16 to 18 m2 per liter per coat on a normal surface.
